In Bulgaria, electricity from renewable sources is mainly promoted through price regulation in terms of a feed-in tariff. Producers of electricity from renewable sources are contractually entitled against the grid operator to the purchase and payment of electricity at a guaranteed price. The price regulation scheme may not be combined with other means of promotion.

In Bulgaria, grid operators must give priority to the connection of systems for the generation of electricity from renewable sources to the grid. System operators are contractually entitled against the grid operator to the purchase of their electricity. Grid operators are obliged to expand their grids to enable the connection of a system for the generation of electricity from renewable sources to the grid.
