Overview of promotion system

In the Republic of Latvia, the generation of electricity from renewable sources is promoted through a system with several elements, with the main element being a price-regulation.

Overview of access to the grid

In Latvia, access of systems for the generation of electricity from renewable sources to the grid is subject to the general provisions of energy law. Electricity from renewable sources is not given priority. Thus, system operators are entitled against the grid operator to the connection of their systems to the grid and to the transmission of electricity according to the principle of non-discrimination. In pursuance of the general provisions, the grid operator is obligated to expand the grid.
