Promotion system
  • Price regulation. In Lithuania, renewable electricity generation is promoted through a price regulation based on minimum prices. Operators of renewable electricity generation systems are entitled against the grid operator to payment for electricity fed into the grid. The total amount of electricity eligible for promotion through the price regulation is limited by statutory law and depends on the source of energy used.
  • Subsidies. In Lithuania, subsidies are granted by the Lithuanian Environmental Investment Fund (LEIF). LEIF subsidises only those projects that aim to reduce environmental damage in the long term. These projects include renewable electricity generation systems.
Technologies

Basically, all technologies used for the generation of electricity from renewable sources are eligible for at least one means of promotion.

Area of application

Only electricity generated within Lithuania or projects and plants within Lithuania are eligible. Electricity generated abroad or plants and projects outside Lithuania are not eligible for promotion.

Funding

The price regulation is financed by the final consumers through electricity prices. The subsidies provided by the Lithuanian Environmental Investment Fund are financed by income from the so-called pollution tax, allocations from federal and municipal budgets, and by European Union funds.
