Promotion system
  • Price regulation. In the Netherlands, electricity from renewable sources is promoted through a price regulation in terms of bonus payments.
  • Fiscal regulation mechanism. The generators of electricity from renewable sources are exempt from the environmental tax, which is levied on electricity consumption (Ecotax). Furthermore, investments in installations that generate electricity from renewable sources are eligible for fiscal benefits (EIA).
  • Subsidies. The third pillar of the promotion system is constituted by subsidies for research and innovation projects aiming at introducing renewable energy sources on the market. These subsidies are provided by the EOS Programme.
Technologies

In the Netherlands, all technologies are eligible for promotion by at least one of the means of promotion. However, each of the means of promotion has a different focus.
