Overview of access to the grid

Statutory provisions
  • Energy Act (Energetski zakon - Uradni list RS, 70/2008)
  • Order on Access to the Grid (Splošni pogoji za dobavo in odjem elektricne energije iz distribucijskega omrežja elektricne energije - Uradni list, RS, 126/2007)
  • Conditions for Access to the Grid (Splosni pogoje za dobavo in odjem elektricne energije iz distribucijskega omrezja elektricne energije)
Connection to the grid

System operators are contractually entitled against the grid operator to the connection of renewable energy systems to the grid. The grid operator is obliged to conclude this contract without discriminating against certain system operators.

Usage of the grid

Grid operators are obliged to take in and transmit electricity from renewable sources, if the systems generating this electricity have a capacity of no more than 5 MW (Chapter IV §§ 22a, 23a Energy Act). Apart from that, electricity from renewable sources must be granted access to the grid according to the general provisions of energy law and without any users being discriminated against.

Grid expansion

The obligation to connect systems that generate renewable electricity to the grid may give rise to a claim for an expansion of the grid. The costs of an expansion of the grid are borne by the grid operator. If the cost of connection turns out to be higher than average, the system operator shall bear part of the cost.
